Image of DOCOMO & children

DOCOMO helps ensure that children can safely carry and operate mobile phones through a multitude of initiatives. In an age where the use of mobile phones to commit crimes and cause other problems has become a social issue, DOCOMO has been implementing mobile phone safety classes for schoolchildren nationwide and seniors since 2004. To ensure enhanced safety and security for children, DOCOMO has been offering its Kids' PHONE Series of handsets since 2006, Access Restriction Service that blocks access to sites harmful to children, and imadoco search function that enables parents to track their children via the location of their mobile phones, including those not equipped with GPS.

Image of environmental protection

Reduced power consumption at DOCOMO's communication facilities helps to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. Solar panels, wind-power generation equipment, fuel cells and green power controller technology enable "Green Base Stations" to reduce their use of commercial electricity. Environmental initiatives also are incorporated in mobile phone services and products. The FOMA eco solar panel 01 enables phones to be recharged with zero CO2 emissions and the TOUCH WOOD SH-08C is a mobile phone with a body made of wood thinnings from Japanese cypress.

Image of user friendliness

The universal design concept of ensuring easy use by everyone is emphasized in DOCOMO products, services and customer relations. Virtually all DOCOMO Shops offer one or more barrier-free features, including store entrances with wide passageways and sloped ramps, wheelchair-accessible counters and restrooms and priority parking for the disabled. DOCOMO also provides multilingual support services and even communication by sign language through videophone systems.

Image of disaster preparedness

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, DOCOMO implemented robust new measures to better secure communication in key areas, respond more swiftly in disaster-stricken areas and improve customer convenience during disasters. Initiatives include more backup power-facilities for base stations, larger stocks of satellite mobile phones for emergency distribution, more vehicle-mounted base stations for cellular-to-satellite access while damaged network infrastructure is repaired, additional emergency wireless facilities to temporarily replace severed optical fiber lines, and much more.

To avoid traffic overload and keep the mobile network open for essential emergency communication during disasters, DOCOMO offers special messaging services that provide customers with the means for contacting family and friends indirectly when network connection is difficult. Disaster Voice Messaging converts messages into files for transmission via the data network. Disaster Message Board, which stores mail messages for others to view, now offers voice guidance and is connected to Google Person Finder and SNS such as Twitter.
