Enhanced Audibility

The Sound Leaf series of bone-conductive receiver/microphones for FOMA handsets incorporates universal design concepts to enhance audibility for the hard-of-hearing and people in noisy environments. Released in September 2006, the system enables sound vibrations to be conducted through the skull bone to auditory nerves. The Sound Leaf Plus model uses Bluetooth® for wireless connection to the handset. |
Multilingual Support

Customers can communicate with DOCOMO sales staff in a variety of ways, including by sign language via videophone. Customer service is also available in several foreign languages, including English, Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish and Korean. |
Barrier-free Stores
DOCOMO is implementing barrier-free layouts at DOCOMO Shops by eliminating steps in entrances, installing wheelchair-accessible counters and restrooms, and offering priority parking to the disabled. Among DOCOMO Shops nationwide, 98% have adopted at least one barrier-free attribute.
DOCOMO Hearty Plaza
DOCOMO Hearty Plazas in Tokyo and Osaka offer special services and designs that are developed with input from universal design experts and people with disabilities. For example, visually and hearing-disabled people are offered instruction in how to use their phones. Presented in an unhurried manner, the course covers tasks such as creating e-mails and making video calls. In 2004 the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization presented the facility with a Good Design Award—Japan's only program for honoring superior design in a wide range of categories—recognizing the Plaza's incorporation of universal design concepts in both services and facilities.
Services
DOCOMO provides a variety of CSR-minded services, such as special discounts for people with disabilities, and user manuals in Braille and audio-readout formats for a selection of mobile phones.
