DOCOMO's R&D is currently engaged in the research and development of "Long Term Evolution (LTE)" which will realize faster transmission speeds and more comfortable mobile environments.
LTE was originally proposed by DOCOMO under the name of Super 3G, aiming at laying the ground for smooth introduction of 4th generation mobile communication systems (4G) by significantly evolving the 3G system first.
Mobile communication operators and vendors world over agreed on this concept, and proposed it in 3GPP, an international standardization organization, for examination.
Later, global standardization activities were carried out under the name of LTE, and currently, mobile communication operators world over are planning its introduction.
