Featured in this section are detailed descriptions of some of the issues and troubles you might face when using certain services, as well as a few matters that we thought might catch your attention.
We advise you to carefully read through each of the information pages linked below.
"Fictitious bills" and Other Illegal e-mails
Recently, we have been receiving an increasing number of reports from our customers, stating that they got "an e-mail or a phone call from people who pretend they have been mandated by unknown Internet contents providers to collect fees for use of their services, or demanding payment of unsettled arrears; asking for great amounts of money, and giving instructions on how to make the payment".
If you receive such a suspicious e-mail or phone call, asking you for great amounts of money in payment for services you do not remember using, we suggest you do not pay without making all necessary verifications first, and avoid replying directly to the e-mail's sender. You are probably being confronted with what is generally referred to as a "fictitious bill". If this is the case, then dishonest persons, who have by some obscure means obtained your phone number or e-mail address, are seeking to beguile you.
Spam e-mail Sent Via SMS (Short Message Service)
Lately, we have been getting inquiries from our customers, regarding spam e-mails that were sent to them via SMS (Short Message Service).
Among them, we have been informed of cases where the user, by clicking on a link (URL) that was inserted in the mail, was taken to a screen with a message to the effect that "his/her registration as a member had been completed", before he/she started getting further e-mails asking for great amounts of money (see "Figure 1: Specific example").
To avoid troubles, if you receive a suspicious mail, please do not click on any of the links that it may contain.
Besides, if you own a FOMA terminal, you can make use of its "SMS Rejection Function", and set it to reject SMS automatically (you have two possibilities: "general SMS" rejection; and "only Caller ID blocked SMS" rejection).
If you do not plan on using SMS at all, we advise you to use this function.
The "SMS Rejection Function" can be used together with other spam e-mail related functions such as "Receive Mail from Selected Domains" etc.
(Figure 1: Specific example)

With malicious methods such as the one described in the figure above, wicked spam e-mail senders can force you to give out personal information (i.e your phone number) by just clicking on an URL.
To avoid troubles, do not carelessly click on such URLs.
In the case described above, even if you click on the malicious URL, information such as your name, your address, your i-mode e-mail address etc. will not be transmitted to the SMS sender.
Setting for receiving calls from public telephones
Please note that you may not be able to receive calls from areas affected by disasters depending on your mobile phone's setting for receiving calls from public telephones.
Mobile phones include a setting for rejecting an incoming call (incoming call reject setting) when the phone number of the other party is unknown. If you are expecting to receive calls from public telephones and other phones in areas affected by disasters, etc., set the corresponding incoming call reject setting to 'Disable'.
This setting is set to 'Disable' at the time of purchase.

The setting procedure, etc. differs depending on the model so refer to the User's Manual for details.
[Incoming call reject setting items other than the above]

(No caller ID setting) incoming call reject setting
(Caller ID not supported) incoming call reject setting
(Not registered in Phonebook) or
(Unregistered) incoming call reject setting
(Accept from specified caller in Phonebook) or
(Accept from specified caller) setting
(Reject from specified caller in Phonebook) or
(Reject from specified caller) setting
When a call is set to be rejected, the other party hears the busy tone and the call information appears in the Call History of the mobile phone that received the call.
Notes on using Disaster Emergency Message Dial (171) from a DOCOMO mobile phone
Please note that you can use (play back and record messages) Disaster Emergency Message Dial (171) of NTT East and NTT West from a DOCOMO mobile phone but the following restrictions apply.
- Only the phone number of an ordinary landline telephone can be registered as a phone number of a person in an affected area (safety check destination). It is not possible to register the phone number of a mobile phone.
- The areas from which messages can be recorded may be restricted depending on the current status of the disaster. When the areas from which messages can be registered are restricted, you will only be able to play messages and will not be able to record messages from a mobile phone.
If you dial 171 from a mobile phone and then select the number for recording a message when the areas from which messages can be registered are restricted, an announcement (in Japanese only) will notify you that recording is not possible because the number was dialed from outside a message recording area.
Separate dialing charges apply for recording and playing back messages.
