Before making a purchase, please check the following notes.

Packet Flat-rate Service (Plan) Recommendations

With a smartphone or tablet, packet communications charges may become high for reasons such as the following, so DOCOMO strongly recommends using Pake-hodai FLAT or Flat-Rate Data Plan Flat (including Value Plan) (in Japanese only) with FOMA and Xi Pake-hodai Flat or Xi Data Plan Flat (including Ninen) (in Japanese only) with Xi "crossy".

  • Large volumes of data may be exchanged when the versions of installed software are updated, applications, tethering, etc. are used, and functions automatically perform communications, regardless of whether the communications were started as a result of user operation.
  • When software is updated via packet communications, charges may be incurred for communications depending on the model.
  • When you subscribe to a service provided by DOCOMO, the application needed to use the service may be installed automatically.
  • If a Wi-Fi connection is disconnected, communications may be switched automatically to packet communications.

Tethering usenotice1

If you use tethering with FOMA, the maximum monthly charge and charges for communications when connected to a PC or other external device will apply even if you are subscribed to a packet flat-rate service. Also, when tethering is enabled, all packet communications will apply to “communications made via connection to a PC or other external device” even if your handset is not connected to an external device so be sure to disable tethering as soon as you end communications when connected to an external device.

Software Updates (Including OS Version Updates)

  • Software updates may be provided for purposes such as adding and changing functions and improving quality. When software updates become available, be sure to update the software so that you can use your handset with the latest software. When a handset with old software is accepted for repairs, DOCOMO may update the software to the latest versions before returning the handset.
  • There are two ways to update software: obtaining the update files from a PC via the Internet and then updating the software by connecting your handset to the PC with a USB cable and using Wi-Fi communications or packet communications to update the software from the handset.

Overseas Use

Packet communications charges incurred overseas are not applicable to the flat rates of domestic packet flat-rate services, Xi data communications dedicated plans, and flat-rate data plans such as Pake-hodai FLAT.

Using packet communications overseas

  • Communications charges may become high due to the above described automatic communications and exchange of large volumes of data, so DOCOMO strongly recommends using Global Pake-hodai.
  • To use Global Pake-hodai, you need to subscribe to one of the domestic packet flat-rate services, Xi data communications dedicated plans, and flat-rate data plans. Use is limited to the countries/regions and communications carriers covered by Global Pake-hodai. Also, an applicable communications carrier need to be configured manually after you arrive at your destination.

Not using packet communications overseas

  • You can configure packet communications not to be used overseas by, for example, clearing the Data roaming check box.

Unauthorized Software Changes

  • Do not make unauthorized changes to the operating system (basic software). Any unauthorized changes will be considered to be modification of the software, and DOCOMO may as a result reject requests for repairs.
  • With some of the applications available to the general public, simply installing them will result in unauthorized changes being made to the software. Use applications at your own responsibility, especially those from providers you do not know.

Other Notes

"Osaifu-Keitai" function usenotice2

As a rule, DOCOMO cannot stop the use of data (electronic money, etc.) inside the IC card of your device in the event that it is lost or stolen, so be sure to contact the "Osaifu-Keitai" service providers.
Furthermore, DOCOMO recommends that you use the “Osaifu-Keitai” Lock setting on a regular basis as a protection measure in case your handset is lost or stolen.

Change to a differently shaped UIM card when changing modelsnotice3

  • If your UIM card is changed from a DOCOMO UIM Card/FOMA Card to a DOCOMO mini UIM Card (or vice versa) as a result of changing models, you will no longer be able to use the handset you used before the model change because the shape of the UIM card will differ. To use the handset you used before the model change again, you will need to be reissued with a UIM card of the same shape as the original (a fee will apply).
  • Please confirm the following points when changing models.
    • Membership registrations for i-mode sites have been cancelled.
    • The data inside the new IC card is replaced with the data of the old one.
