This is the data communications service of DOCOMO. It is available anywhere provided you are in an area where FOMA can connect. This service can be used with data communications dedicated models, DOCOMO handsets, and other devices.

High-speed communications at a maximum data rate of 54 Mbps are available at a low flat rate via wireless LAN access points installed in airports, train stations, hotels, and cafes (Page will open in a new window.Mzone areas [in Japanese only]) around Japan.
This is recommended for people whose activities bring them near access points.

Communications are provided on a best effort basis. The maximum data rate of 54 Mbps is the maximum value of the technical specification, and does not represent the actual data rate. The actual data rates may differ depending on the communications environment and network congestion.

FOMA data communications are available anytime, anywhere provided you are in a service area. In addition to Japan, FOMA data communications are available overseas in various areas in which the international roaming service is provided. This is recommended for people who wish to use the Internet in various locations when, for example, they go out, go on a business trip, or go on holiday.

Service Area

If you are in a FOMA HIGH-SPEED area, high-speed packet communications at the maximum data rates of 7.2 Mbps for receiving and 5.7 Mbps or 384 kbps1 for sending are available.
