Sending Mail with Images and Other Content

International MMS is a service for i-mode compatible mobile phones that enables i-mode users to exchange mail messages with MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) users abroad. FOMA users can also attach and send pictures, video clips, and music files.

International MMS | How to send International MMS. 1. Enter the recipient's address: "+" - country code - other party's phone number. "+" cannot be displayed by holding down "0" for more than one second. Operations for displaying "+" differ depending on the model. Please see the user's manual for details. Furthermore, the international prefix "010" cannot be used as a substitute for "+". Exclude the first "0" if the other party's phone number begins with a "0" (except for some countries and regions). Service not supported for some countries and regions where the first "0" of the area code is required. 2. Enter the text (up to 10,000 half-size alphanumeric characters) and attach a file. File formats* that can be sent differ depending on the model. > 3. Send

  • noticeIf a file of over 300 KB is sent, the attached file will be deleted.
    However, a file of over 300 KB can be sent depending on the file format (JPEG or GIF89a).
  • noticeIf an image file (JPEG or GIF89a) of over 300 KB is attached, the file will be automatically compressed when sent.
    In such a case, if the size is over 300 KB after compression, the attached file will be deleted.
    File formats that can be sent depend on the i-mode and mobile phone specifications. Recommended formats are jpeg for still images and 3gp for audio and video files.

Example: Sending an International MMS message to Hong Kong

International MMS | When attaching a file with FOMA. 1. Send using +852YYYYYYYYY (＊Using half-size alphanumeric characters is recommended when sending messages to a local mobile phone.) 2. Receive the message as an MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) message overseas. 3. Reply using +8190XXXXXXXX. 4. Receive the message as i-mode mail in Japan.

    • Web operations when viewing "Web operations when viewing the Mail Check Site". (Packet communications charges for downloading mail in Japan are free of charge.)

  • noticeFree communications allowances, such as those included in the basic monthly charge, apply to International MMS communications charges and packet communications charges. However, the communications allowances included in FOMA Data Communications Billing Plans will not apply.
