The International MMS sending/receiving method was changed at 10:00 a.m. on July 1, 2009. Messages are now sent and received via the phone number.

  • The phone number of the sender will be notified to the recipient.
  • It is now possible to send and receive larger files. Consequently, changes have been made to International MMS communications.
  • Packet communications charges for receiving International MMS are now free.
  • The method of sending and receiving messages via e-mail addresses was ended at 8:00 p.m. on June 30, 2009. It is no longer possible to send and receive messages via e-mail addresses and attempting to do so will incur packet communications charges.
  • It is not possible to send or receive International MMS with a 2in1 B number.

Service overview

Send messages and attachments to local mobile phones with i-mode.

International MMS is a service for i-mode compatible mobile phones that enables i-mode users to exchange mail messages with MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) users abroad. FOMA users can also attach and send pictures, video clips, and music files.

This service is available on all i-mode compatible handset models.

  • noticeFile formats that can be sent and received are determined by the scope of i-mode mail and handset specifications.
  • noticeDepending on the file format, an image file of over 100 KB can be sent.
    If an image file (JPEG or GIF89a) of over 100 KB is attached, the file will be automatically compressed when sent. In such a case, if the size is over 100 KB after compression, the attached file will be deleted.
  • noticeIf a video file of over 100 KB is sent, the attached file will be deleted.
  • noticeWhen an image file or video is received, the file size will be changed. (Conditions for receiving are the same as for i-shot and i-motion mail.)
  • noticeMessages may not be sent properly due to the server of the receiving operator and the functions on the handset.
  • noticeDeco-Mail is not available. Attempts to send Deco-Mail will either be unsuccessful or the message will not be displayed as intended when it is received.

Notes on use

  • noticeSeparate subscription to i-mode is required to use International MMS.
  • noticeThere may be cases where messages cannot be exchanged or displayed properly depending on the functions on your phone or the other party's phone or the network conditions of the other party, or due to an error in the transmission method, etc. Please be aware that International MMS communications charges and packet communications charges may still apply in these cases.
  • noticePacket communications charges will be incurred based on the data volume of mail before it is compressed or deleted.
  • noticeIf the sending is not completed due to the network conditions of the other party and you receive an error message, International MMS sending charges will not be incurred. However, packet communications charges will still apply.
  • noticeIf you send a message to more than one address at the same time, International MMS sending charges will be incurred according to the number of addresses to which you send it.
  • noticeCurrently, you may be unable to receive International MMS from some overseas operators if you switched to DOCOMO from another mobile phone company with Mobile Number Portability.
