Handling of Personal Information for Credit Card Services

1. Purposes for collecting personal information

  • 1DOCOMO collects and manages the personal information listed in section (2) below when providing comprehensive credit purchase brokerage and other services providing credit in exchange for products and services, services related to cash loans, and other related services, including provided services called iD (hereinafter collectively referred to as "Credit Related Services"), only as required to achieve the following purposes.

    3To provide Credit Related Services and provide the user with information on Credit Related Services (including information on services provided by business partners and participating stores displaying the iD mark [hereinafter referred to as "iD Participating Stores"]); as well as to implement promotional campaigns and other sales promotion programs. Personal information listed in 1,2,4 and 7 to 10 of section (2) below.
    4To conduct surveys and analysis of sales and usage, surveys and analysis of business policies and their effectiveness; as well to plan, develop, and analyze new products and services. Personal information listed in 1,2,4 and 7 to 10 of section (2) below.
    5To provide customer service in response to inquiries, requests, and opinions received from users. Personal information listed in 1,2,4,5 and 7 to 10 of section (2) below.
    6To prevent unauthorized or fraudulent subscriptions, unauthorized or fraudulent usage, and non-payment of charges; as well as to investigate and respond to the occurrence of such problems. Personal information listed in 1 to 10of section (2) below.
    7To process credit obligations and other rights or collateral related to subscribers acquired through the provision of Credit Related Services. Personal information listed in 1 to 9of section (2) below.
    8To investigate and respond to system outages and other malfunctions. Personal information listed in 1 to 4and 6 to 9 of section (2) below.
  • 2DOCOMO uses the following personal information for the purposes listed in section (1) above.
    • 1Name, address, date of birth, and other information
      Name, address, date of birth, age, gender, telephone number, e-mail address, occupation, place of work, purpose of transaction, family composition, housing status, financial institution account number, account name, etc.
    • 2Details of application and usage status etc.
      • Regarding the application status for Credit Related Services: date of application, date of subscription, record of accepted applications, etc.
      • Regarding usage status (date of usage, store where the service is used, amount used, number of payments, etc.) and contract details for Credit Related Services
    • 3Credit information
      Credit information regarding the user's ability to pay: annual income of the user or the household (declared by the user), assets, liabilities, income, expenses, past loan repayment status (including payment status in terms of usage charges for telecommunications services), payment and loan repayment status in terms of Credit Related Services, etc.
    • 4Accompanying details acquired through the provision of services, etc.
      Content of inquiries, requests, and opinions; and other accompanying details acquired through the provision of Credit Related Services such as information acquired via iD i-appli.
    • 5Information on official identification documents and other information that verifies the user's identity
      Information on driver's licenses, passports, and other legal identification documents, as well as information related to procedures such as those to verify a person's identity
    • 6Public information
      Open information in government gazettes, telephone directories, etc.
    • 7Details of usage charges etc. for telecommunications service
      Amounts billed, method of payment, and other details of usage charges for telecommunications service
    • 8Information on details of telecommunications service
      Information related to telecommunications service, information related to optional services, information related to members-only services, and information related to various services provided by using the functions of telecommunications devices
    • 9Information related to the telecommunications device etc. used
      Model name, serial number, and other information related to the telecommunications device
    • 10Details of evaluation
      Information as a result of DOCOMO's analysis, based on the user's usage status of Credit Related Services and other information acquired by DOCOMO through the provision of service
  • 3Personal information used to carry out business entrusted to DOCOMO from other carriers will be used as necessary to complete the relevant business.
  • 4If DOCOMO recognizes that any of the following cases apply, personal information may be used for purposes other than those noted above, while giving the utmost consideration to the rights and interests of the user.
    • 1If laws or regulations apply;
    • 2If it is necessary for the protection of a person's life, body, or assets, and receiving consent from the user is difficult;
    • 3If it is especially necessary for the improvement of public health or promotion of the sound growth of children, and receiving consent from the user is difficult; or
    • 4If cooperation is required to conduct duties stipulated in laws and regulations of government institutions/local authorities or parties entrusted by them, and there is concern that receiving consent from the user may interfere with the conduct of those duties.

2. Registering and using information to/from personal credit information agencies

  • 1Credit Service Members agree to DOCOMO referring to a group of credit information agencies of which DOCOMO is a member (entities that collect information regarding an individual credit user's ability to pay and provide relevant information to its members) as shown below in the section entitled "Name, Address, and Phone Number of Member Credit information Agencies" (hereinafter referred to as Member Credit Information Agencies) and credit information agencies partnering with Member Credit Information Agencies as shown below in the section entitled "Name, Address, and Phone Number of Partner Credit information Agencies" (hereinafter referred to as Partner Credit Information Agencies) for personal information (including the history of that information) of Credit Service Members (including users who wish to become Credit Service Members; hereinafter referred to in the same way) shown in the "Personal Information" column of the table below entitled "Personal Information and Term of Use", and using that information, if such personal information of Credit Service Members and their spouses is available, only for the purpose of evaluating the Credit Service Member's ability to pay or repay.
  • 2Credit Service Members agree to information specified by Member Credit Information Agencies (information, including the history of that information, shown in the "Personal Information" column of the table below entitled "Personal Information and Term of Use") being recorded for the lengths of time indicated in the "Term of Use" column of the table below entitled "Personal Information and Term of Use", and to the recorded information being used by members of Member Credit Information Agencies and Partner Credit Information Agencies for the purpose of evaluating the Credit Service Member's ability to pay or repay.
  • 3Member credit information agencies, partner credit information agencies, and their members share and utilize as necessary the information kept in their respective credit information databases as described in section (2) above to maintain accuracy and recency, process complaints, and enable member credit information agencies to monitor their members to make sure that they comply with the rules, thereby ensuring the confidentiality and proper use of personal information.

      1Name, date of birth, gender, address, telephone number, place of employment, and alphanumeric information in driver's license and other user information For as long as any items from 2 - 7 in Personal Information are maintained in the database.
      2The fact that the user made an application regarding this contract. No more than six months from the date of inquiry to a personal credit information agency by DOCOMO.
      3Objective transaction circumstances surrounding this contractnotice1 For as long as the user's Credit Related Services contract is valid but no more than five years after the contract is terminated or the final payment is made, whichever is longer.
      4The fact that a credit payment was not made on time. Registering with CREDIT INFORMATION CENTER CORP.: During the term of the user's Credit Related Services contract or no more than five years after the contract is terminated (or after the final payment is made if such is not completed).
      Registering with Japan Credit Information Reference Center Corp.: During the term of the user's Credit Related Services contract or no more than one year after the contract is terminated.
      5Information regarding the fact of assignment of an obligation Registering with Japan Credit Information Reference Center Corp.: During the period no more than one year from the date of assignment.
      6A complaint from the user is currently under investigation. For the duration of the investigation.
      7Information received from the user, including loss of personal identification, theft of card, self-imposed credit ban, etc. No more than five years after the receipt of the information.

3. Other provision of personal information to third parties

  • 1If DOCOMO recognizes that any of the following cases apply, personal information may be provided to third parties while giving the utmost consideration to the rights and interests of the user.
    • 1If the user grants permission;
    • 2If laws or regulations apply;
    • 3If it is necessary for the protection of a person's life, body, or assets, and receiving consent from the user is difficult;
    • 4If it is especially necessary for the improvement of public health or promotion of the sound growth of children, and receiving consent from the user is difficult; or
    • 5If cooperation is required to conduct duties stipulated in laws and regulations of government institutions/local authorities or parties entrusted by them, and there is concern that receiving consent from the user may interfere with the conduct of those duties.
  • 2Regarding Credit Related Services, DOCOMO entrusts credit evaluation, credit management, and some other related operations to service vendors, and provides the personal information listed in items 1 - 10 of section 1(2) above to those vendors as necessary to achieve the objectives of those services.

  • 3Use of DOCOMO Credit Related Services and Credit Related Services (limited to those that use the handset IC card used by DOCOMO's Credit Related Services) of other Credit Related Service providers by the user enables access to the following information by the following third parties via the IC card in the user's handset.

    • 1Third parties that have access to information:
      iD Participating Stores where the Credit Related Service was used.
      Information regarding iD Participating Stores is available at the DOCOMO website.
    • 2Type of information
      Information regarding the credit service user's card number and date of birth
    • 3Why this information is made available
      In order to survey and analyze sales and usage of Credit Related Services.
  • 4In cases where the name of the telecommunications service subscriber differs from the name of the user applying for Credit Related Services, DOCOMO may provide the subscriber with the user's name, address, application and usage status of Credit Related Services, and other pertinent information so that the subscriber may review the terms of the Credit Related Services contract or point service, various complimentary services, other supplementary services, and other various services for users (hereinafter referred to as "Supplementary Services") in Credit Related Services.

  • 5DOCOMO may provide the following information when requested by the following third parties for the purpose of providing the Credit Related Services of insurance services provided by insurance companies and various compensation services provided by DOCOMO (hereinafter referred to as "Insurance Services").

      Insurance companies listed on the DOCOMO website.

      Personal information listed in 1, 2, and 4 of section 1(2).
    • 3Why this information is made available
      In order to assess and confirm the application and usage status of users.
  • 6DOCOMO may provide the following information when requested by the following third parties for the purpose of providing Supplementary Services.
    • 1Third parties who are provided with information
      DOCOMO business partners involved in Supplementary Services (including business partners and parties in partnership relationships).
    • 2Type of information
      Personal information listed in 1, 2, and 4 of section 1(2).
    • 3Why this information is made available
      In order to assess and confirm the application and usage status of users who are subject to Supplementary Services.
  • 7In order for a Credit Service Member to access and confirm the Credit Related Services usage of a Family Member, DOCOMO may provide personal information of the Family Member listed in 1, 2, and 4 of section 1 (2) to the Credit Service Member.

  • 8For users using the ETC card, if it is necessary for the ETC System Providers listed below to bill the Credit Service Member directly for charges for usage of the ETC card, DOCOMO will provide the name, address, phone number, mail address, and other pertinent information from the personal information of the user listed in 1 of section 1 (2) to the ETC System Providers below.
    ETC System Providers:
    East Nippon Expressway Company Limited, Central Nippon Expressway Company Limited, West Nippon Expressway Company Limited, Metropolitan Expressway Company Limited, Hanshin Expressway Company Limited, Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressway Company Limited, regional public highway corporations, and road administrators of prefectures, cities, towns and villages designated by DOCOMO.

4. Disclosure and amendments of personal information etc.

  • 1DOCOMO addresses inquiries regarding the subscription status for Credit Related Services, and requests to check past credit transactions and other details at Customer Support. When an inquiry or request is received, DOCOMO will act to verify that the personal information is that of the user.

  • 2If a user requests disclosure of their personal information, DOCOMO will do so without delay. Procedures for disclosure are laid out below. Inquiries regarding procedures are accepted at Customer Support.
    • 1Applying (must be sent by post)
      Once all items indicated on the "Application for Disclosure of Personal Information for Credit Card Services" (hereinafter referred to in this section as "Application Form") are filled out, the Application Form should be sent to the address below together with documents verifying the user's identity. The Application Form is available from the DOCOMO Information Center, or it can be downloaded (in Japanese only) from the website.

    • 2Verifying the identity of the user
      Please enclose documents designated by DOCOMO for verifying the identity of the user in the envelope.
    • 3Verification results
      Results will be sent by Simplified Registered Mail directly to the user (the user's residence address).
    • 4Handling charges for disclosure (in Japan)
      Handling charges currently do not apply. (Any changes will be notified beforehand.)

      Furthermore, please note that if DOCOMO recognizes that any of the following cases apply, requested personal information may not be fully or partially disclosed. If DOCOMO decides not to disclose the personal information, the user will be notified of the reason in writing. (In that case, payment of handling charges will not be required.)
      • If the address on the Application Form and documents verifying the user's identity differ from the address recorded at DOCOMO, or for some other reason that prevents verification of the user's identity
      • If the specified application documents are incomplete
      • If DOCOMO is not in possession of the requested personal information
      • If there is a risk that disclosure will harm the life, body, assets, or other rights and interests of the user or a third party
      • If there is a possibility that disclosure will cause significant interference with the proper conduct of DOCOMO business
      • If it violates some other law or regulation
  • 3If a user requests amendments (amendment, addition, deletion, suspension of usage, or suspension of provision to third parties) to personal information, DOCOMO will investigate without delay. If, as a result, the relevant personal information is found to be inaccurate or it is found that the information has not been managed correctly, DOCOMO will make amendments without delay. (Requests for amendments are received at Customer Support.)
    Please note that even if there is a request for amendments, according to laws and regulations, DOCOMO may not fully or partially amend the requested personal information.

  • 4DOCOMO will address requests to notify the purpose for which personal information is collected, at Customer Support.

5. Opting out of direct mailing services

Users who prefer not to receive direct mail and other advertising services may choose to opt out by applying to DOCOMO. Please be aware, however, that all customers will continue to receive notices to renew their card numbers and other announcements necessary to the operation of Credit Related Services together with their monthly statement.
