Hearty Style Initiatives
DOCOMO carries out activities based on the universal design concept, with which we seek to make products and services easy to use for all people. The activities aim for universal design from the three standpoints of promoting product and service development, enhancing customer support and disseminating safe and secure use.
We have launched initiatives such as Product and Service Development, including the development of the Raku-Raku PHONE series and smartphone apps designed for persons with disabilities (such as Mieru Denwa, Move&Flick, and Simple Flick), Enhance Customer Support, including the barrier-free access of docomo Shops, installation of videophones supporting sign language, and operation of docomo Hearty Plaza (Marunouchi), and Disseminate Safe and Secure Use, including the holding of DOCOMO Hearty Class lectures for persons with disabilities and Smartphone and Mobile Phone Safety Classes for special-needs schools aimed at students and parents.

RAINBOW Project—A Bridge Leading to Smiles

DOCOMO set up the TOHOKU Reconstruction Support Office to construct a system for business management that would enable us to contribute more promptly to the reconstruction of regions affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. We have continued to take actions aimed at the recovery and rebirth of mainly the Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima regions.
The office harnesses DOCOMO's business assets as an ICT company while serving as a bridge to the affected regions. Its members make frequent visits to these areas so they can think about the true needs of the region, and it maintains its activities by exploring solutions together with the locals.

DOCOMO Tohoku Supporters: The Power of Employees
DOCOMO Group employees have participated in efforts to support areas affected by disasters in Tohoku through initiatives known as "Remember the Areas Affected by Disaster" and "One Action per Employee".

Smartphone and Mobile Phone Safety Classes
Free smartphone and mobile phone safety classes provided throughout Japan represent one of our efforts to provide safe and secure services. In these classes, users are instructed on how to manage the risks and problems related to the use of smartphones and mobile phones in order to prevent their occurrence.
Users can learn how to deal with social issues, such as the increasing problems caused by the widespread use of smartphones and related new services.
The classes are arranged into levels for various types of users: an introductory class, an advanced class, a class for parents and teachers, a class for special-needs schools, and a class for the elderly.

Mieru Denwa to Support Calls for People with Hearing Impairments

Providing human connections for as many people as possible
This is a service that converts the speech of the other party in a telephone conversation into text in real time and displays them on the screen of your smartphone. It is convenient for people who find it difficult to understand the other party when speaking on the phone, such as those with hearing impairments or the elderly.
Although it is easy these days to apply for services using the Internet or email, there are still many occasions that require you to make a call. For example, you would need to call to cancel a lost credit card or to ask about problems with public utility services.
DOCOMO provides the convenience of phone calls as well as human connections to as many people as possible.

Utilization of unused area
To encourage and expand the use of environmentally friendly and safe renewable energy and contribute to reducing human environmental impact, we built solar power generation systems in unused areas on the grounds of our wireless relay stations.
With solar panels installed in unused lands, we supply some of the expected power generated to the adjacent base station and sell the remaining amount to an electric power company through the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy.
We will continue to promote power generation in unused lands and actively expand conventional green base stations nationwide with the aim of achieving a total power generation of 2,000 kW by 2020.

Introduction of paddy sensors
In Niigata City, more than 80 percent of elementary schools have educational Kyoikuden rice paddies and provide a farming experience as part of their classes on food and agriculture.
They implemented PaddyWatch (rice paddy sensors), a water management support system for wet-rice agriculture using our communication line, agri-note, which records field work, and the use of tablets to realize a new farming experience using ICT for children.
The rice paddy sensors renders visualizations of the water level and temperature, and children monitor the data every day for water level control, making them conscious of the fact that they are growing their own rice.
Agri-note also enables children to review their work by checking their masters' (regional teaching farmers') work and their activity records through images and text.
