NTT DoCoMo Group to Commence Reforestation Project

Others

TOKYO, JAPAN, April 17, 2003 --- The NTT DoCoMo group announced today that it will conduct its 8th "DoCoMo Woods" Campaign. This environmental initiative is part of DoCoMo's ongoing philanthropic activities.

NTT DoCoMo launched this reforestation project in May 1999 and has continued its efforts in eight different regions during the past five years. New trees have been planted in Yamaguchi, Kanagawa, Hokkaido, Kagawa, Ishikawa and Mie prefectures and the Kanto-Koshinetsu region (please see attachment). The goal is to reforest a total of nine areas of Japan by 2004.

On April 19, some 80 DoCoMo employees will go to Okushima-yama in Shiga Prefecture where they will plant cedar, cypress and oak seedlings in an area measuring approximately 1.34 hectares.

DoCoMo established the project through the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization, in cooperation with the Forestry Agency. The organization, which is funded by DoCoMo and other environmentally-concerned companies, organizes projects that provide major corporations with opportunities to replenish wooded areas and protect wildlife.

As one of Japan's most prominent corporate citizens, DoCoMo takes environmental protection very seriously. Some of the diverse environmental activities conducted by the company include:

Environmentally-aware procurement of materials.
Development of compact mobile phones that minimize power consumption.
Recycling of mobile phones and their rechargeable batteries.
Environmentally-friendly building designs for all group facilities.
Use of recycled paper for instruction manuals, product catalogs, complementary paper bags, etc.
