NTT DoCoMo to Launch New Model in mova 506i Series

TOKYO, JAPAN, June 24, 2004 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries announced today the release of N506i, the latest model in the 2G i-mode® compatible mova® 506i series, which will be marketed beginning June 26, 2004.

The N506i includes a unique 180-degree TFT screen "reverse style™" rotation feature, as well as a "shuttlekey™" function that enables telephoning, e-mailing and browsing after the handset has been opened, rotated and then closed again. In addition, the handset offers TV hookup capability for viewing of photos and video.

Additional functions include hands-free e-mail "read-aloud" capability that may be controlled by a pre-registered voice, and an access reader® that allows storage of information from business cards written in Japanese to the phone's address book, as well as dictionary searches for unfamiliar words. The model also features a 2.4 inch QVGAPLUS™ LCD display (345 x 240 dots) that surpasses the QVGA LCD (320 x 240 dots).

The main characteristics of the 506i series include:

  • Cameras that have effective resolutions of more than one mega-pixel
  • Infrared ports for exchanging data and photos with compatible handsets, authentication, cashless payments and remote-control operation of appliances
  • Ability to read JAN Code and QR Code®, which enables easy retrieval of data from printed materials, copying information to the phone's address book and saving items such as text, pictures and melodies
  • i-appli™ DX for extended Java-enabled content, enhanced customization of the phone's address book and exchange of data using i-appli applications and i-mode mail

The N506i will be available through all DoCoMo sales channels on June 26. The price of the handset will be open (unfixed). The standard accessory kit, which includes a battery pack, AC adapter, desktop holder, 16MB mini SD™ memory card and adaptor, will cost 3,675 yen. An optional AV output cable cost 787 yen. These accessory prices apply to the Kanto-Koshinetsu area, and may be changed in other locations by DoCoMo's eight regional subsidiaries.
