i-mode users outside Japan exceed 3 million

July 9, 2004 Bruxelles, Boulogne-Billancourt Cedex, Athens, Tokyo, Dusseldorf, Taipei, The Hague, Madrid, Sydney, Roma --- The group of i-mode™ Alliance companies announced today that i-mode users outside Japan exceeded three million at the end of June 2004. This announcement comes just four months after the figure reached two million.

The i-mode subscriber base is expected to continuing growing at a rapid pace, since it is becoming a strong brand in mobile data communications markets worldwide. Services are currently available through eight i-mode operators outside Japan: BASE (Belgium), Bouygues Telecom (France), E-Plus (Germany), Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (Taiwan), KPN Mobile (The Netherlands), Telefónica Móviles España (Spain), WIND Telecomunicazioni S.p.A. (Italy), and COSMOTE - Mobile Telecommunications S.A. (Greece). Australian operator Telstra Corporation Limited will join the i-mode alliance by the end of this year. i-mode subscribers world wide, including Japan, have now reached 44.7million, making it the most popular mobile internet service in the world.
