TOKYO, JAPAN, April 28, 2015 --- NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today its new initiatives toward the delivery of medium-term targets, including plans to widen its scope of business and to collaborate with new partners for value creation.

DOCOMO introduced a new flat-rate billing plan, Kake-hodai & Pake-aeruTM, and an ultra-fast optical-fiber broadband service, docomo Hikari, part of a strategy to shift from short-term cost-competition to highly useful services and businesses that become ingrained in the lives of loyal DOCOMO customers.

In response to the increasing needs of customers, DOCOMO will continue to pursue this strategy shift, focusing on co-creation initiatives for increased collaboration with business partners to create high added value. The ultimate goals are to develop all-new services and businesses that further enrich customers' lives, provide solutions for the pressing needs of society and stimulate Japan's industry.

Creating new value through +d

Under the +d (pronounced "plus d") initiative, DOCOMO will intensify efforts to share its extensive business assets with partner companies for streamlined collaboration. Services co-created through such efforts will be branded with unified names that begin with the letter "d." DOCOMO will strive, together with its partners, to empower customers in ways that enable them to realize more affordable, enjoyable and convenient lives.

Supporting society through co-creation

Leveraging IoT to co-create new businesses

Collaborative efforts will involve DOCOMO extending its reach further into the Internet of Things (IoT) to create new value and business models that incorporate diverse technologies. This will be done in fields including automobiles, the environment, energy and others.

Meeting needs in society through advanced services

DOCOMO aims to drive ICT centered on cloud technologies to develop innovative solutions that meet pressing needs in modern society, particularly in fields such as health/medical care, education/learning and agriculture.

Revitalizing Japan's regional economies through new businesses

DOCOMO will create all-new businesses that combine the company's business assets and the unique potential of Japan's individual geographic regions to help stimulate these regional economies.

Creating businesses for 2020

DOCOMO is developing businesses for advanced machine translation, next-generation mobile infrastructure for more robust mobile communications, and increased use of ICT in sports to promote cutting-edge technologies envisioned for 2020.
