Notice Regarding Mobile Phone Battery Packs

We apologize for any inconvenience and concern caused by defects discovered in certain D06 series batteries manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric.(Dec. 7, 2006 Advisory for D06 Batteries in D902i Handset)

We also apologize to customers using batteries other than the D06 who have contacted the company out of concern about the swelling or safety of their phone batteries. We wish to emphasize that there is no risk of these batteries cracking open unless they are used in an unsafe manner (see below). Accordingly, we strongly recommend customers to use their phone batteries in a safe manner.

1. Battery

a.  General
Lithium ion batteries may expand over time, but the battery does not present a safety hazard unless it is used unsafely (see below). A battery’s life depends on how it is used, but in general a battery can function effectively for about one year.
b.  Recharging
1)  It is recommended to recharge the battery when the strength indicator on the phone’s screen drops to one bar. The ambient temperature of the room should be 5 - 35.
2)  It is not recommended to use the phone while recharging the battery. Also, do not frequently recharge the battery while the strength indicator still shows two or three bars. In both cases, the battery life could be shortened.

2. Proper use of phone, battery and adapter/charger

a.  Discontinue using any product that has been damaged or deformed.
b.  If a battery has been subjected to strong impact, stop using it immediately. Continued use may result in the battery leaking fluid, overheating, cracking or catching fire. The phone or adapter/charger also might be damaged or catch fire.
c.  Do not throw strike or put excessive pressure on the battery.
d.  Leaving products in excessively hot locations may result in the battery leaking, overheating, cracking or catching fire. The phone or adapter/charger also might be damaged or catch fire. Also, the phone’s casing might overheat and cause injury (burns, etc.).
e.  Do not throw the battery into a fire, put it in a microwave oven or pressurized container, leave it next to a fire/stove, in strong sunlight, or in a car on a hot day.
f.  Do not use batteries or adapters/chargers other than those specified by the DoCoMo Group. Third-party products might subject the phone or battery to high voltage/current leading to product damage, fire, electrical shock or injury (burns, etc.).
g.  Do not place electrically conductive objects (wires, pencil leads, etc.) in contact with the charging terminals or external jacks of the phone or battery, or the adapter/charger plugs. Also, do not carrying or store the battery with metal items, such as watches, accessories, necklaces, etc. Any of these improper uses might result in a short circuit and damage the equipment, or cause fire, electrical shock or injury (burns, etc.).
h.  Do not disassemble, modify or solder the phone, battery or adapter/charger. Doing so may cause the battery to leak, overheat, crack or catch fire, or damage the phone or adapter/charger, or cause fire, electrical shock or injury (burns, etc.).
i.  Do not peel the label off the battery.
