Advisory for SIMPURE N, SIMPURE L, NM850iG, hTc Z and BlackBerry 8707h Handsets

NTT DoCoMo, Inc. has confirmed that some 3G FOMATM SIMPURE N, SIMPURE L, NM850iG, hTc Z and BlackBerry 8707hTM handsets are experiencing authentication problems when used overseas.

The problem has been tied to certain FOMA cards in these handsets, and results in the user being unable to complete the authentication process with some overseas operator networks, rendering inoperable the handsets’ voice call and packet communication features, including i-modeTM. The display indicates the message that the handset is out of reception when the problem occurs. Affected handsets are also unusable in Japan upon the user’s return from overseas.

The problem does not affect handsets used exclusively in Japan.

DoCoMo has prepared new FOMA cards capable of avoiding the problem caused by signal conversion. Beginning March 19, all owners of SIMPURE N, SIMPURE L, NM850iG, hTc Z and BlackBerry 8707h handsets with the affected cards will be contacted by postal mail and informed that they can receive replacement cards at DoCoMo shops.

For more information, users in Japan may call 0120-187-090 (toll-free) between 9 am and 8 pm (including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) until June 30, 2007.

For inquiries from overseas, users may call (International Prefix number for the universal number)-800-5931-8600 via regular telephones (local fees charged) anytime of day or night, or +81-3-3513-6249 (toll-free) through DoCoMo handsets between 9 am and 8 pm Japan Standard Time (including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) until June 30, 2007.

DoCoMo deeply apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this problem.
