Notice of Resolution to the Overheating Problem and Resumption of Sales of the docomo PRO series BlackBerry® BoldTM


Thank you for using NTT DOCOMO products.

As notified on Friday, February 27, 2009 in Notice of Temporary Suspension of docomo PRO series BlackBerry® BoldTM Sales, BlackBerry Bold mobile phones had been found to overheat.
We have identified the cause of that overheating as being a fault in the software that controls power, and the problem can be resolved for current users by conducting a software update. That update has been made available as of today.
Furthermore, sales of docomo PRO series BlackBerry Bold will resume on Friday, April 10, 2009.

Date software update becomes available: Tuesday, April 7, 2009
Date of resumption of sales: Friday, April 10, 2009

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for BlackBerry Bold users.
NTT DOCOMO continues to strive to improve services, and we ask for your understanding and cooperation with this issue.

1. How to resolve issue

The device overheating issue will be resolved by updating the software through operations conducted on the BlackBerry Bold mobile phone. You do not need to visit a repair counter.
We will issue a notice on the software update starting today, and the Wireless Update icon shown below will be displayed on the mobile phone screen.

The displayed icon is an indication that a software update is available. Please perform the software update.

    

Software Update for BlackBerry Bold

  • noticeYou will be refunded an amount equivalent to the packet communications charges incurred for updating the software.

  • noticeIf you are using a substitute handset, we will replace that with a BlackBerry Bold device running the updated software. Please bring the substitute handset to the repair counter that lent you that handset.
  • noticeA direct mail announcement will be sent to subscribers notifying of the resolution of this issue.

2. Extension of free monthly charge promotion for BlackBerry services

About a month was required for resumption of sales, causing a major inconvenience for subscribers. The free monthly charge promotion for BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Enterprise Service, and BlackBerry Dual Service will therefore be extended for one month. The new promotion term will be from Sunday, February 1 to Sunday, May 31, 2009.
